Avoid Complicated Formulas. “These are the "kitchen sink" supplements,
products that have as many as 20 herbs in a tablet or capsule. It''''s
hard enough to get an active does of one herb into a single tablet or
capsule, much less 20 active doses of 20 different herbs. Bottom line:
They just don''''t work.”

As the sunny season approaches it is important for anyone with melanoma risk factors to take extra precautions. Risk factors include a family history of skin cancer, fair skin that burns easily, or more than twenty moles on your skin. In addition to using the green tea extract as a preventive measure you should take the following steps:
1. Monthly sefl examination. Keep an eye out for any moles that are asymmetric, have an irregular border, have variations in color, or have a diameter greater than the size of a pencil eraser. Also, any moles that change in appearance or become itchy or tender should be checked out.
2. Yearly Exam. See a dermatologist for a check up once per year if you are in the skin cancer high risk group.
Melanoma can be an aggressive cancer but it is easily curable if detected early. Deaths from melanoma could be reduced 60% through early detection.
|Greenbush Bio-Chelated Extracts:
Full medicinal strength in an alcohol-free extract. Until Bio-Chelation there was simply no good way to make a potent
alcohol-free extract. Greenbush alcohol free extracts begin with
organic alcohol regardless of whether the final product contains
alcohol or not. After finishing the first step in the plant extraction,
an additional step is performed to remove the alcohol. This is done by
utilizing a proprietary cold extraction process called
Bio-Chelation Bio-Chelation describes the cold process vacuum
distillation method, which removes all the alcohol initially used to
obtain the good herbal extract.
Holistically Balanced Herbal Extracts:
It is important to note that a cold extraction process, as opposed to a
heat extraction process, helps maintain the full spectrum, or Holistic
BalanceTM of the plant''''s constituents in the final product. The
end-result is an alcohol-free extract containing the essential
properties of the complete herb in a base of vegetable glycerin and
water. (Vegetable glycerin is used because it can help to bind certain
plant constituents, is natural to the body, easily absorbed, tastes
sweet without affecting blood sugar levels, and acts as a good solvent
and carrier for the plant constituents).

Cinnamon is one of the world's most common and popular spices but until recent surprising research few people considered it a medicinal herb. However, delving into the history of the herb reveals that its use as a medicine ranges from ancient Egypt through the Bubonic Plague. Even the modern research was prompted by reports of people controlling diabetes, cutting cholesterol levels in half, and wiping out belly fat. Further research indicates the herb improves brain function and is a sexual stimulant. What's not to like? Much like ginger root and turmeric, we seem to have another common herb that would deserve wonder drug status if it were made by a drug company. The popularity of cinnamon as a health supplement is soaring as the research pours in supporting the claims. See the research below.
Cinnamon: The Research, Health Benefits and Greenbush Quality.
Benefits of Cinnamon*:
Antibacterial, acne, athletes foot, brain function, anti-fungal, blood sugar balance, cholesterol reduction (reducing LDL while not affecting HDL), diabetes care and prevention: increased glucose metabolism and insulin production, intestinal gas reduction, digestive health, sexual stimulation, stroke prevention, lower triglyceride levels, ulcer treatment, urinary tract infections, yeast infections. *From "The People's Pharmacy" by Joe and Teresa Graedon PhD, "Healing Therapies" by Mark Stengler, N.D., The Duke's Dozen by Dr. James Duke, and suggestions of Dr. Andrew Weil.
Cinnamon Research and Medical Uses:
Recent studies showed cinnamon improved memory and the ability to process information. Further studies are underway to confirm the use of the herb in improving mental function in Alzheimer's patients and the elderly as well as for anxiety.
Abdominal fat has long been associated with prediabetes since the digestive system tends to store excess glucose as fat there. Cinnamon reduces insulin resistance allowing the system to process the excess glucose and reduce belly fat possibly reducing the chances of developing Type II diabetes.
-Blood Sugar and Diabetes Control:
Researchers in a Maryland USDA center accidentally discovered that cinnamon, administered in apple pie of all things, reduced blood glucose levels and insulin resistance as well as reducing cholesterol levels. Further studies confirmed the findings and much interest has developed in finding if cinnamon can help to prevent the onset of diabetes.
A 2003 study published in the Journal of Food Medicine showed the cinnamon improved overall cholesterol levels by lowering bad LDL cholesterol while raising good HDL levels. The same study confirmed lower blood sugar and triglyceride levels as well.
-Urinary Tract and Yeast Infections:
German studies indicate that cinnamon completely eliminates the bacteria that cause urinary tract infections as well as the fungus that causes yeast infections.
-Ulcer Prevention and Digestive Problems:
A Japanese study indicates that cinnamon soothes the digestive tract and helps to prevent ulcers.
Menopause, HRT and Black Cohosh...
Recent publicity concerning the health risks of synthetic hormone replacement therapy has led many women to seek more natural solutions. And with good reason. In areas of the world where soy and other estrogenic plants are part of the diet, breast cancer rates are much lower and menopausal symptoms are almost non-existent. Synthetic hormone replacement is not common because it is not needed.
In the U.S., where pharmaceutical companies make $8 billion a year on synthetic hormones, breast cancer, heart attacks and strokes are increasing dramatically among menopausal women. Dr. John Lee, author of "What your Doctor May Not Tell You about Menopause", blames the increases on synthetic hormones. He says that the pharmaceutical companies are well aware of the problems. "The whole thing is madness," he says, "and it's driven by greed." A few simple and natural solutions can clear up the menopausal problems and eliminate the health risks associated with the synthetic hormones.
Black Cohosh is recommended as an alternative to HRT by leading herbal experts. In a recent landmark study such herbs actually worked better than estrogen in eliminating hot flashes, mood swings, irritability, insomnia and anxiety. And, unlike estrogen, they actually helped to prevent cancer.
Herbal researcher Dr. James Duke has this to say about Black Cohosh; "Black cohosh really should be better known in this country, especially with our aging population and the millions of women who are now facing menopause. Recognized for its mild sedative and anti-inflammatory activity, black cohosh can help with hot flashes and other symptoms associated with that dramatic change of life called menopause.
It's also reported to have some estrogenic activity.
Herbalist Steven Foster refers to a study that compared the effects of conventional estrogen replacement therapy with black cohosh. That study looked at 60 women, younger than 40 years old, who had had complete hysterectomies and were experiencing abrupt menopause. In all groups, treatment with black cohosh compared favorably with conventional treatment."
"Native Americans used the roots and rhizomes of this member of the buttercup family to treat kidney ailments, malaria, rheumatism, and sore throats. Early American settlers turned to it for bronchitis, dropsy, fever, hysteria and nervous disorders, lumbago, rattlesnake bites, and yellow fever. It's also reportedly well known for easing PMS and menstrual irregularities."
This estrogenic activity, notes Dr. Duke, can contribute to a "mastogenic" effect; the natural enlargement of the breasts. Black Cohosh has also been used to induce labor and should not be used during pregnancy.

Red Clover and Soy Isoflavones
: The Research, Health Benefits and Greenbush Quality.
Red Clover Soy Isoflavone Benefits and Uses:
Fighting Cancer, Preventing Cancer, Lowering Cholesterol, Preventing Heart Disease, Dandruff, Endometriosis, PMS and Menopausal Symptoms, Hot Flashes, Osteoporosis, Shingles and Warts.
Dr. James Duke, author of the book "The Green Pharmacy" and former herbal researcher with the USDA had this to say about soy; "Soybeans, like most, if not all, commonly eaten beans, contain several compounds called phytoestrogens. These compounds mimic the effect of the body's own estrogen, but with a milder punch than the real hormone. Since many breast tumors seem to need the hormone estrogen to grow, some speculate that phytoestrogens might inhibit tumor growth" Dr. Duke also comments, "Soybeans also are touted to alleviate the symptoms of menopause, when a woman's natural production of estrogen slows down, and, "one cup of soybeans contains about the same amount of phytoestrogens as one tablet of Premarin, the much stronger synthetic estrogen that is often prescribed in hormone replacement therapy." These phyto-estrogens are among those that contribute to the breast enhancing effects. Soy Isoflavones are a wonderful addition for breast enhancment and general breast health.
The most well studied phytoestrogens are the isoflavones found in soy and red clover.
Heart Disease, Cholesterol and Cancer:
Intake of soy protein has been found to help reduce total cholesterol and LDL while increasing HDL ("good" cholesterol). In fact, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration allows products that contain at least 6.25 grams of soy protein per serving and are low in fats and cholesterol to declare that they can help reduce the risk of heart disease.
Soy isoflavones, which happen to be antioxidants, may also help prevent breast and prostate cancer. Isoflavones have an anti-estrogen effect when the body's estrogen levels are high because isoflavones and estrogen compete for estrogen receptors. This may help explain the lower incidence of breast cancer in populations with higher intakes of soy foods and a possible beneficial effect of isoflavones in treating cyclical mastalgia (breast pain associated with the menstrual cycle).
PMS and Menopausal Symptoms:
Soy specifically has been shown to significantly reduce menopausal symptoms such as "hot flashes". Both red clover and soy isoflavones may improve the elasticity of blood vessels in menopausal and peri-menopausal women.
