|All About Phytoestrogens:
There is still much confusion over the use of phytoestrogenic herbs. Many people misunderstand, thinking that they are adding estrogen to their systems.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
While the research gets rather technical, good news on these nutrients continues to accumulate indicating that they improve the entire reproductive system and help to prevent breast and ovarian cancer.
Phytoestrogens. What they
are: Plant hormones similar to but weaker than human estrogens that are
believed to reduce the risk of breast and prostate cancer; also to
minimize the mood swings and hot flashes associated with menopause.
Some medical researchers believe that phytoestrogens may one day
supplant current estrogen-replacement therapy: unlike estrogen, their
downside is nil.
From THE NUTRITION BIBLE, Jean Anderson and Barbara Deskins.
Avoid Complicated Formulas. “These are the "kitchen sink" supplements,
products that have as many as 20 herbs in a tablet or capsule. It''''''''''''''''s
hard enough to get an active does of one herb into a single tablet or
capsule, much less 20 active doses of 20 different herbs. Bottom line:
They just don''''''''''''''''t work.”
|Greenbush Bio-Chelated Extracts:
Full medicinal strength in an alcohol-free extract. Until Bio-Chelation there was simply no good way to make a potent
alcohol-free extract. Greenbush alcohol free extracts begin with
organic alcohol regardless of whether the final product contains
alcohol or not. After finishing the first step in the plant extraction,
an additional step is performed to remove the alcohol. This is done by
utilizing a proprietary cold extraction process called
Bio-Chelation Bio-Chelation describes the cold process vacuum
distillation method, which removes all the alcohol initially used to
obtain the good herbal extract.
Holistically Balanced Herbal Extracts:
It is important to note that a cold extraction process, as opposed to a
heat extraction process, helps maintain the full spectrum, or Holistic
BalanceTM of the plant's constituents in the final product. The
end-result is an alcohol-free extract containing the essential
properties of the complete herb in a base of vegetable glycerin and
water. (Vegetable glycerin is used because it can help to bind certain
plant constituents, is natural to the body, easily absorbed, tastes
sweet without affecting blood sugar levels, and acts as a good solvent
and carrier for the plant constituents).

|Understanding Wild Yam. Get Your Free Bottle!
Wild yam is the most widely used herb, but is somewhat misunderstood. It has been a staple of native and folk medicines for centuries, used for everything from gallstones to inflammation, as well as for a plethora of women's problems. Herbs that maintain popularity for centuries do so because they work.
Wild yam was also used to make the first synthetic hormones for birth control pills because it is rich in phytoestrogens and sapponins. Because of these nutrients, wild yam is included in our breast health and enhancement programs and continues to be one of our most popular and effective herbs.

|Wild Yam: Herb of the Ages
In Herbal Healing for Women, author Rosemary Gladstar states that wild yam (Dioscorea villosa) “is the most widely used herb in the world today,” with derivatives of the herb present in thousands of prescription and over-the-counter medicines.
The Experts: Wild yam is used as a hormone balancer, breast enhancer and a sexual stimulant, and is recommended by herbalist Susun Weed, author of Breast Cancer?Breast Health!, for fostering healthy breast tissue. Weed suggests adding the herb to creams for breast massage and notes that women using this mixture see improvements in both breast health and size. Dr. James Duke notes that wild yam contains less disogenin than fenugreek, but contains many other compounds that contribute to breast health and enhancement.
Recommended Uses: Breast enhancement, breast health, breastfeeding,, indigestion, inflammation, gallbladder disorders, hormone balance, hypoglycemia, joint pain, kidney stones, menopausal symptoms, morning sickness, menstrual cramps, nerve pain, PMS, reproductive system health, sexual desire in women, vaginal dryness.. From "Prescription for Natural Healing" Balch and Balch, "The Green Pharmacy" Dr. James Duke, "Natural Health Bible" Bratman and Kroll.
Recommendations and Research*: There is a common misconception that Wild yam contains progesterone. This stems from the early use of wild yam to produce synthetic progesterone, a chemical process that does not occur in the human body simply from consuming wild yam. Claims that wild yam is a "natural progesterone" are simply not true. This, unfortunately, led many in the scientific and medical community to discard wild yam as a worthless scam. But, wild yam contains diosgenin, dioscin, phytosterols, sapponins, tanins and other phytoestrogens that make it an effective and highly regarded medicine in natural healing circles.
While there has been little research into wild yam, other than its use in making synthetic progesterone, many native American healers and highly respected herbalists lend credence to its medicinal properties. Susan Weed, author of "Breast Cancer? Breast Health!" suggests many uses for the herb and attests to its effectiveness in her practice.
Safety Issues: Wild yam, a commonly eaten food, is on the FDA "GRAS" list of foods "Generally Regarded as Safe." It should not be consumed in high doses by pregnant women.

Turmeric Research and Medical Uses:
Turmeric was recently the subject of a startling new research report from at The M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. In the study, turmeric was shown to stop metastasis, the progression of breast cancer, to the lungs and lymph nodes. Follow-up studies are in progress.
A recent article by Dr. Andrew Weil states:
-"People whose diets are rich in turmeric have lower rates of breast cancer as well as prostate, lung and colon cancers."
-"Turmeric is useful for all inflammatory disorders and for autoimmune conditions. It also may have a role in prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's."
-"My preference is for whole turmeric, rather than isolated curcumin, because I believe in the synergy of all active elements in botanical medicines."
An article "Turmeric" by Jacqueline Strax states:
"In Japan this year researchers defined curcumin as a broad-spectrum anti-cancer agent. Its induction of "detoxifying enzymes," the researchers say, indicate its "potential value ... as a protective agent against chemical carcinogenesis and other forms of electrophilic toxicity. The significance of these results can be implicated in relation to cancer chemopreventive effects of curcumin against the induction of tumours in various target organs"
"Antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties of turmeric and curcumin are undergoing intense research. Tests in Germany, reported July 2003,found that "All fractions of the turmeric extract preparation exhibited pronounced antioxidant activity...."
"Several breast tumor cell lines, "including hormone-dependent and -independent and multidrug-resistant (MDR) lines," respond to antiproliferative effects of curcumin. Aggarwal et al examined cell lines "including the MDR-positive ones," and found they were all "highly sensitive to curcumin. The growth inhibitory effect of curcumin was time- and dose-dependent.... Overall our results suggest that curcumin is a potent antiproliferative agent for breast tumor cells and may have potential as an anticancer agent." (Anticancer Drugs. 1997 Jun;8(5):470-81). Other laboratories offer varying explanations but confirm the activity level of curcumin against breast , prostate and other cancers."
M.D. Andersons scientists state: "Extensive research over the last 50 years has indicated [curcumin] can both prevent and treat cancer. The anticancer potential of curcumin stems from its ability to suppress proliferation of a wide variety of tumor cells, down-regulate transcription factors NF-kappa B, AP-1 and Egr-1; down-regulate the expression of COX2, LOX, NOS, MMP-9, uPA, TNF, chemokines, cell surface adhesion molecules and cyclin D1; down-regulate growth factor receptors (such as EGFR and HER2); and inhibit the activity of c-Jun N-terminal kinase, protein tyrosine kinases and protein serine/threonine kinases."
