Ginger Root: The Herbal Wonder

Ginger Root: The Herbal WonderI spend a lot of time trying to get people to use ginger root. Friends, family, customers, acquaintances. Anyone could eliminate many of their minor health complaints and possibly some very major health problems simply by incorporating ginger into their daily diets. My typical argument is that if ginger root had been discovered by a drug company it would be the wonder drug of the century.

-Ginger is one of the most interesting and useful herbal health tonics and one of the easiest to use. It is a great flavoring for many foods including ginger ale and ginger snaps, and is used throughout the world. Scientists have isolated several compounds in Ginger that have specific effects in fighting illness. It is anti-inflammatory, supporting joint health and easing pain.

-Ginger is a general health tonic that improves circulation, aids with digestive problems and has anti-inflammatory properties possibly more powerful than over the counter pain relievers but without the side effects. It is helpful in the treatment of anything from angina and fatigue, to mood support and joint support. One of the more promising uses is in treating nausea and motion sickness: Myth Busters. We were watching the Discovery Channel the other day when an interesting show called "The Myth Busters" came on. They were doing a piece on seasickness remedies, including wrist straps, magnets, pressure points, pharmaceutical drugs, over-the-counter drugs, and ginger root. The guys on the show rigged up a seasickness chair that rotated and bounced causing motion sickness. Not our idea of a good time. But they are well paid for their shenanigans. We watched as they applied various motion sickness devices and spun around until they got sick. We watched with particular interest as they tested the ginger root. They spun and spun and finally stopped, feeling fine. In fact, at the end of the show, the team concluded that ginger was the only viable choice. The motion sickness drugs worked just as well, but left them feeling, well, drugged. The ginger had none of these side effects. At Greenbush we have known about the ginger cure for motion sickness for a long time and have used it ourselves many times. But it was still nice to see it validated on a national television show.

Fortunately ginger is easy to incorporate into your daily routine. It makes a nice tea, is a great addition to any stir fry recipe and can even be grated into salads. For small children who have car sickness I always recommend getting the crystallized ginger root and simply have them suck on a piece of it to get rid of the nausea. (I know from experience with my own children that this works wonderfully).

When buying herbal medicines be sure to look at the ingredients. Greenbush herbs have no fillers and are never irradiated or sprayed with pesticides. The extracts are alcohol free, medicinal strength and holistically balanced. Manufactured in the US. FDA inspected. Good Manufacturing Practices guidelines. Why not buy the best. Your health depends on it.

Greenbush Bio-Chelated Extracts: Until Bio-Chelation there was simply no good way to make a potent alcohol-free extract. Greenbush alcohol free extracts begin with organic alcohol regardless of whether the final product contains alcohol or not. After finishing the first step in the plant extraction, an additional step is performed to remove the alcohol. This is done by utilizing a proprietary cold extraction process called Bio-Chelation®. Bio-Chelation® describes the cold process vacuum distillation method, which removes all the alcohol initially used to obtain the good herbal extract.

Holistically Balanced Herbal Extracts: It is important to note that a cold extraction process, as opposed to a heat extraction process, helps maintain the full spectrum, or Holistic BalanceTM of the plant's constituents in the final product. The end-result is an alcohol-free extract containing the essential properties of the complete herb in a base of vegetable glycerin and water. (Vegetable glycerin is used because it can help to bind certain plant constituents, is natural to the body, easily absorbed, tastes sweet without affecting blood sugar levels, and acts as a good solvent and carrier for the plant constituents).
